Very famous Japanese Ukiyo-e painter Hokusai Katsushika (A.D.1870- 1849) depicted 36 Views of Mt. Fuji, which took about ten years to complete i.e. from A.D.1823 to A.D.1831. Though that is well known as Hokusai's 36 Views of Mt. Fuji, as a matter of fact, 36 Views of Mt. Fuji consists of 46 Ukiyo-e pictures. Because of good reputation in those days in Japan, Hokusai added 10 picture to 36 Views of Mt. Fuji. As a social background of the reason why Hokusai depicted 36 views of Mt Fuji, it should be indicated that the Mt Fuji was an object of religion of the Japanese of those days.
